NOW SHOWING: VISITA IGLESIA ONLINE
If like me you are going to be stuck at work during the Lenten season, have no fear, Visita Iglesia Online (http://visitaiglesia.net) is here to help you celebrate the passion and death of Christ right in the comforts of your own cubicle. The media office of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) launched this virtual site as an alternative for those who are not able to physically attend liturgical celebrations in their parishes. This is for the benefit of OFWs and folks like me with no vacation, it functions as a resource for spiritual growth and deepening of one’s faith and includes catecheses and reflections for Lent, Holy Week and Easter produced by bishops and priests.
What to expect from Online Visita Iglesia?
“The ‘online churchgoer’ will have the traditional Visita Iglesia in a multimedia presentation that features 14 shrines and pilgrimage churches to correspond with the 14 Stations of the Cross with reflections given by priests,” the CBCP News said.
Catholics will be able to visit 14 pilgrimage churches online while saying the 14 Stations of the Cross in each church.
There is also an afternoon service on Good Friday featuring a series of readings and meditations on Christ’s Seven Last Words on the Cross.
It also features the Pasyon (Passion), the sung reading of the Gospel account of Christ’s Passion, depicting the events and suffering of Jesus in the hours before and including his trial and execution by Crucifixion.
This is a perfect place for anyone who would like to solemnly observe the Holy Week if unable to have the time to practice the Filipino tradition of visiting pilgrimage churches in the country.
